#WeAreGreenKey: Spotlight on Olivia Eberle

Welcome back to #WeAreGreenKey, where we shine a spotlight on our powerhouse recruiting team.

Recently, we caught up with Olivia Eberle, Recruiter on the Accounting and Finance team at Green Key. Olivia started her recruiting career at Green Key about a year ago after she transitioned from a career in public accounting.

Can you share your career journey and how you progressed to your current role?

Sure. After I got my Bachelors in Accounting, I started my accounting career in public audit with a firm that no longer exists and after spending some time there I realized that accounting might not be for me, so I wanted to try a different route. That’s when a recruiter from Green Key reached out to me about an accounting role, which I ended up working in for about 6 months. That role helped me solidify my thought that accounting was not for me, but I still wanted to use my degree. So, I reached out to my recruiter from Green Key to ask about recruiting and now I am here.

What have been some of the most rewarding aspects of your career?

Even though I had to learn the sales side of the business, there are a lot of rewarding aspects to my career. Firstly, I love being able to help candidates who are looking to change not just their career or role but their lifestyle. I love that I can help them take their careers to another level and I can successfully place them in a role that will help them reach whatever goal they want to achieve. Another rewarding aspect is the fact that I can be my authentic self in this job. It’s very nice to be able to work in a role where I can express my personality and connect with people every day.

How do you balance the use of AI technologies with traditional recruitment methods in accounting and finance, ensuring a human-centric approach while leveraging the benefits of automation and data-driven insights?

I use ChatGPT almost every day for a couple in a couple of different ways specifically for searches and when I am recruiting for a new role. I also use LinkedIn recruiter’s AI tools that are really helpful when it comes to building searches, so I use those and then I also go back to ChatGPT. I use ChatGPT sometimes with resume writing because I really like helping my candidates with their resume. Some people just have never had resume guidance, which is something that I received at my college.

What advice would you give to candidates looking to stand out in the accounting and finance job market?

To candidates, I would say your resume is the thing that makes the first impression, so spend a good amount of time writing it and have a couple of different resumes on file. Especially, if you’re looking for different types of jobs, for example somebody like me, coming out of public accounting looking to go to private. There are a couple of different tracks that you can go on and you can write your resume in a couple of different ways to be a little bit more tailored to each. Additionally, I think that being yourself in interviews is really important. A lot of people don’t realize that even though they are working within accounting, which at times can be very solitary work you have to be interactive, and I think candidates are more successful when they’re willing to step outside of the box.

How do you stay updated on changes and developments within the pharmaceutical industry to better serve your clients and candidates?

I have a few main ways, I follow probably hundreds of companies on LinkedIn, some of which are our clients. I’m also a member of different CPA Society groups on LinkedIn where people will talk about different changes to the CPA exam or changes to audit guidance or tax guidance that kind of helps me stay in the know. I also use Reddit, there are a lot of accounting and finance pages on Reddit where I hear or read about things like layoffs before, they are public or, if there’s a merger happening sometimes like somebody will post it on Reddit before you even hear about it in the news. Lastly, I read a lot of news publications like the New York Times and Microsoft News like the articles that just pops up on your computer.

Do you have any new professional goals, either for yourself or your team?

Yes, so in the grand scheme of things, I am pretty new to Green Key but with the growth of our Morristown office I would really love to continue to help others and help find another recruiter or two to join our office. I would also like to continue to help my co-workers develop their skills especially if they didn’t come from an accounting background.

Overcoming Remote Work Burnout

Remote work has become the new norm for countless professionals worldwide, offering flexibility and freedom like never before. However, with this shift comes a unique set of challenges, including the growing threat of remote work burnout. As individuals strive to balance work responsibilities with personal well-being in a digital environment, the risk of burnout looms large. In this article, we’ll explore causes, signs, and strategies to combat burnout in a remote work environment.

Remote work burnout can manifest in various ways, from feeling constantly overwhelmed and exhausted to experiencing a decline in productivity and motivation. Factors such as blurred boundaries between work and personal life, isolation, and increased screen time contribute to this phenomenon. According to Apollo Technical, “The risk of burnout while working at home all day every day is rising. A survey by monster.com found that 69% of employees are experiencing burnout symptoms while working from home…” However, with the right strategies in place, it is possible to mitigate and prevent burnout while thriving in a remote work environment.

Causes of Remote Work Burnout

This type of burnout can stem from various factors such as:

  • Working too many hours
  • Unclear job expectations
  • Never taking time for self-care or vacation

Justworks.com highlighted a few other causes of remote work burnout:

  • No work-life separation or balance
  • Feeling alienated or lonely–no face-to-face interactions
  • Micromanagement
  • Poor communication in the workplace

Signs of Burnout

  • Unable to complete tasks on time
  • Losing track of tasks and time or unable to focus on one task at a time
  • Feeling of sadness, anger, or frustration
  • Work induced anxiety

Strategies to combat Burnout

Establish boundaries: One of the most effective ways to combat remote work burnout is by establishing clear boundaries between work and personal life. Set designated work hours and stick to them as much as possible.

Prioritize Self-Care: Self-care is essential for maintaining overall well-being, especially in a remote work setting. Make time for activities that recharge your batteries, whether its exercising, meditating, or pursuing hobbies.

Stay Connected: Isolation is a common challenge for remote workers and can contribute to feelings of burnout. Stay connected with colleagues through virtual meetings, instant messaging, and collaboration tools.

Set Realistic Goals: Setting realistic goals and expectations for yourself is crucial for preventing burnout. Break down larger tasks into smaller, manageable chunks and prioritize them based on importance and deadlines. Avoid overcommitting yourself and learn to say no when necessary. Remember that it’s okay to ask for help or delegate tasks when feeling overwhelmed.

Unplug and Recharge: In today’s hyper-connected world, it can be tempting to be “always on,” but this mentality can quickly lead to burnout. Make a conscious effort to unplug from work at the end of the day and on weekends.

Seek Support: Ifyou’re experiencing symptoms of burnout that persist despite your efforts to address them, don’t hesitate to seek support. Talk to your manager or HR department about your concerns and explore potential solutions together. Also, consider reaching out to a therapist or counselor who can provide additional support and guidance.

Remote work burnout is a real and pressing concern for many individuals, but it is not insurmountable. By implementing these strategies, remote workers can navigate burnout and cultivate a healthy and sustainable work-life balance.

Navigating the ATS Maze

In the digital age of recruitment, applicant tracking systems (ATS) play a pivotal role in determining which resumes make the cut. These automated gatekeepers sift through countless applications, making it essential for job seekers to optimize their resumes for ATS compatibility.

In this article, we’ll explore practical strategies to ensure your resume not only survives the ATS scan but also stands out to recruiters. Let’s dive into the details!

According to Indeed, “Nearly 40% of employers use an ATS to screen candidates for their job openings. Applicant tracking systems save employers time by applying filters, parsing every resume submitted and forwarding only the most relevant, qualified candidates to a hiring manager or recruiter. The technology uses both the way your resume is written and the information it includes to decide.”

Tips for Outsmarting the Applicant Tracking System (ATS)

Choose Your Format Wisely

   – Stick with the chronological format—it’s ATS-friendly and familiar to recruiters.

   – Avoid fancy designs or unconventional layouts that might confuse the system.

Section Labels Matter

   – Use standard headings like “Work Experience,” “Skills,” and “Education.”

   – Clear labels help ATS software categorize your qualifications effectively.

Customize for Each Role

   – Tailor your resume to match the job description.

   – Identify relevant keywords and sprinkle them throughout your resume.

 Keep It Simple

   – Headers, footers, and complex formatting can trip up ATS systems.

   – Stick to a clean, straightforward layout.

Highlight Relevant Information

   – Focus on job-related skills, certifications, and accomplishments.

   – Quantify your achievements wherever possible.

 Test Your Resume

   – Use online ATS scanners to ensure compatibility.

   – Adjust as needed based on the results.

By mastering the art of creating an ATS-friendly resume, you’ll increase your chances of landing interviews and moving closer to your dream job. Remember, your resume is your first impression!

Green Key Unlocked: LinkedIn Profile Tips to Attract Recruiters

In today’s competitive job market, having a strong LinkedIn profile is essential for career success. Whether you’re actively job hunting or simply want to expand your professional network, an optimized profile can make a significant difference in a tight market. We caught up with Brooke Stemen, Director of Talent Acquisition to share a few tips to help you boost your LinkedIn presence and catch the attention of recruiters.

Optimize Your Profile

Start by ensuring that your profile is complete and up to date. Use a professional profile picture and write a compelling headline that summarizes your expertise and value proposition. Also, be sure to customize your URL to include your name for a clean and professional look. Stemen elaborates, “Think of your profile as your first impression, you always want to put your best foot forward and present yourself in a professional manner.”

Craft a Compelling Summary

In short, your LinkedIn summary is your opportunity to tell your professional story and highlight your unique strengths and experiences. LinkedIn goes further to say, “It’s an open-ended space (sort of; 2,600 characters max) where you give an overview of your professional life. Your summary or About section is the one place you define yourself in your own words, free of start dates and titles. Whether you use it to put career choices in context, highlight your biggest achievements, or show off your personality, the summary is your chance to put your best self out there. It strengthens your first impression in a way no other Profile section can.”

Highlight Your Achievements

Don’t just list your responsibilities- highlight your accomplishments and accolades. Most importantly quantify your impact whenever possible. Use bullet points to showcase key accomplishments and demonstrate your value to potential employers or clients. Whether you were employee of the month or winning incentive trips, your resume and LinkedIn is not a place to downplay your impact and achievements.

Utilize Keywords

Incorporate relevant keywords throughout your profile to increase your visibility in LinkedIn searches. Recruiters source candidate profiles by using keywords you can list on your profile to find the best candidates for their open roles. Stemen describes it as, “Think of it as optimizing your ‘Recruiter SEO’” by adding hard and soft skills, tools, systems, industry terms, and job titles that recruiters or clients might use when looking for someone with your expertise, and make sure to include them in your profile.

Build Your Network

Connect with colleagues, classmates, mentors, and industry professionals and recruiters to expand your network and increase your reach and network. Not only is this a fantastic way to stay knowledgeable about what is going on in your industry and connect to leaders in your field, it may connect you to your next role. Be sure to personalize your connection requests whenever possible to make a meaningful connection. Recruiters are constantly posting about their hot jobs, by staying connected to recruiters in your industry you may just scroll past your dream job one day.

Engage with Content and Stay Active

Share valuable content, engage, and comment on posts, and connect with others in your network to demonstrate expertise and stay top of mind. Regularly update your profile with new achievements and stay active by posting and engaging with industry insights and celebrating your colleagues’ wins, ensuring a strong presence and ongoing professional growth.

By implementing these strategies, you can elevate your LinkedIn profile and position yourself as a standout professional in your industry. Remember, LinkedIn is not just a digital resume- it’s a powerful platform for building your personal brand, expanding your network, and unlocking new opportunities.

#WeAreGreenKey: Spotlight on Lauren Pratt

Welcome back to #WeAreGreenKey, where we shine a spotlight on our powerhouse recruiting team.

We recently met up with Lauren Pratt, Executive Director on the Architecture, Engineering and Construction team at Green Key. Lauren started her career at Green Key in 2022, with 6 years of previous recruiting experience. As an expert in her field, she works within the Architecture, Engineering and Construction team focusing on the construction side of the business for the Southeast US.

How did you first get started in Architecture and Engineering recruiting?

Honestly, just at the right place at the right time! My undergraduate degree is in Petroleum Engineering (I chose to follow in my dad’s footsteps). I worked within the oil and gas industry early in my career and when we went through a downturn, I interviewed with a recruitment company who helped hire within O&G. They asked me to come work for them and build out a technical discipline, which was construction. I ended up loving the juxtaposition of the technical aspect with the personality and sales piece of the candidate and client side and never looked back!

What motivated you to pursue a career in this niche?

I grew up in a family that pursued very technical careers, so I was a bit naive to the niche in general. I ended up loving the detail and technicality I could bring to the role with my more unique background, paired with the personality and sales piece. To me, recruitment is like a puzzle – finding out the details and pairing the right candidates and clients together. That gives me a lot of fulfillment when it comes together and knowing you are helping further a candidate’s career or helping a company continue to grow with a great hire.

What have been some of the most rewarding aspects of your career?

From a personal aspect, nothing will ever top a grateful candidate or client – the call, the text, the LinkedIn recommendation – knowing that you have made a positive impact. From a professional aspect, being able to work in a sales role allows you to get out what you put in – and to be compensated for that success.

How do you identify and attract top talent in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction fields?

We as a team have a great track record in the space, which helps attract talent through reputation and referrals, but it’s really just continuing to make a name for yourself in the industry – going above and beyond for our candidates and clients and that translates into other people wanting to work with us as well. We utilize LinkedIn and our networks extensively; we continue to stay on top of new technology and are not afraid to try something new if it means bringing in new talent from either a candidate or client side!

How do you stay updated on industry trends and developments to better serve your clients and candidates?

Straight from the source – the best is always through candidates and clients as they are the ones in it every day. We also have websites and tools we utilize as well and always share information and articles across the team collaboratively.

What are some key factors that clients typically consider when selecting candidates for Architecture and Engineering positions?

I can only speak to construction and development specifically, but we look for alignment in project portfolio, tenure, who they work for, what they are looking for in a new role, and compensation and where applicable, dig into those pieces so we can paint a clearer picture for our clients when representing these candidates.

2024 marks 20 years of Green Key and how would you describe your experience since starting here?

Rewarding – from a compensation perspective and a mental health perspective. I appreciate the autonomy and flexibility granted to you here to run a business, the capability to offer input on things like new tech or processes. I love the team I work on here and am grateful to get to work with them every day!
